Biography
Silvia's biography reflects her mission: To mainstream mindful leadership to benefit dogs and their owners. 1993 - Ongoing: passionate dog parent of both pedigreed pooches and rescued mutts. 1993 - Ongoing: conducting research, field studies and documented case studies, attending cutting edge seminars and workshops on dog behavior and human-dog relationships. 1995 - Ongoing: consulting clients on behavior, the dog-human relationship and dietary impact on behavior. 1993 - 2006: participated with my own and foster dogs in various structured activities including obedience, freestyle, herding, tracking and Rally O'. 2007: attended a "operant conditioned approach regarding dog-aggression" seminar with Dr. Jesus Ruis-Ronsales. 2006 - 2007: developed and instructed Companion Group Training Classes in Cochrane and Calgary. 2002 - 2007: writing and publishing "Dump Dog". 1995 - 2007: founder and co-owner of Baby Barks, a successful natural dog food company in Calgary, Alberta. 2003 - 2006: housed, rehabilitated and rehomed numerous foster dogs, that stayed with us anywhere from 7 days to 6 months, all the while keeping my own dogs happy and unstressed. 2001 - 2006: more than 1000 volunteer hours spent at two humane societies. Duties included: trainer assistant; dog behavior assessment; head start program (specialized training to give untrained and unruly dogs a "paw up" to increase adoptability); phone help-line; match making (assessing and matching compatible human-dog personalities). 2006: attended a dog-human-relationship seminar with Suzanne Clothier and a herding workshop with Randy Dye. 2005: attended a "controlling the drive" workshop with Allen Bauman. 2005: developed and instructed group training classes for the Cochrane Humane Society with the emphasis on mindful leadership. 2005: attended the CAPPDT conference. 2004: attended an aggression seminar with a well-known aggression expert, that I found disturbing. Sometimes learning means to know what NOT to do. 2002: attended a "calming signals and stress in dogs seminar" with Turid Rugaas. 2001-2002: attended a Behavior 101 and Dog Assessment seminar with the Calgary Humane Society. 2000: attended a dog aggression seminar with the Calgary Board of Education. 1999: completed the Meisterfeld Correspondence Dog Training Course. 1994 -1997: completed several holistic therapy courses with the Wild Rose College of Natural Healing including: biology; physiology, nutrition. 1992 - 1994: instructed nutrition and lifestyle courses for the Rastatt (Germany) Community College. 1991: completed education as a health adviser with emphasis on nutrition, environment and immune system in Frankfurt/Germany. Silvia is a professional CAPPDT member (Canadian Association of Professional Pet Dog Trainers)
